The newly restored 1889 Washington Opera House, run by the Maysville Players since 1964, seats 500 patrons and is located in Downtown Maysville on West Second Street. The famous Opera sign serves as a beacon for people eager to experience professional arts, live entertainment and civic events. The theatre basked in the national spotlight with the red carpet premiere of George Clooney's film "Leatherheads" in March of 2008. This 1920's atmospheric theatre also hosted a red carpet event when Maysville's own Rosemary Clooney returned for her premiere "The Stars are Singing" in 1953.

The Kentucky Gateway Museum Center is home to three dynamic collections: The Genealogical and Historic Research Library, The Regional History Museum and the Kathleen Savage Browning Miniature Collection. Each bring the stories of the region in fascinating focus.

Today, as part of the growing trend of downtown revitalization, many theaters that stood dormant for years are finding new life as performing arts and community centers and others as motion picture venues. Fortunately, the Russell Theatre is also following this trend. In 1995, the building's deteriorating state caught the attention of concerned citizens who rallied to preserve the structure. The Russell Theatre Corporation was formed and is well on its way to reopening the theater and restoring it to its rightful place in the community's entertainment and tourism industry.

Special Events and festivals are the mainstay of Maysville- Mason County Tourism. Maysville loves a street party, as is evident throughout the summer and fall as everyone congregates on Market Street for wine tasting and music for Maysville Uncorked.  Great barbecue and music are available at the Pig Out Barbecue Contest.  In Old Washington we hold true to the frontier heritage with annual events such as the Simon Kenton Festival and Frontier Christmas.
