Hardin County is certified as a Kentucky Work Ready Community. The certification program from the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board (KWIB) and the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet assures employers that a local workforce has the talent and skills necessary to staff existing jobs and to master the innovative technologies new jobs will require. Hardin County has held this distinction since 2014.

To become certified, communities must gather local support and commitment and apply for the Kentucky Work Ready Communities designation. Counties have to meet criteria in six areas including high school graduation rate, National Career Readiness Certificate holders, demonstrated community commitment, educational attainment, soft-skills development and digital literacy.

450 Hardin County Schools graduating Seniors have earned work ethic certification for the 2016-17 school year. The Work Ethic Certification Program focuses on soft skills often required by employers such as good attendance, respect and communication skills. To receive the certification, students must demonstrate proficiency in the program’s eight standards. It serves as validation that students have successfully displayed strong work habits that will foster success in higher education and the workplace. The first time it was offered in the 2013-14 school year, 61 students received the certification. In the 2014-15 school year, it was 200 students. In the 2015-16, the total was 187. The increasing participation numbers demonstrate the value this program hast to the students, community and the work force.
