Operation Oswego County

Oswego, NY 13126

Overview

Oswego County has four distinct seasons. The summer temperatures are moderate, allowing for comfortable days for outdoor activities like boating, fishing, bike riding and more. The autumn is marked by the beautiful, colorful display of fall leaves. The winter is a season for snow lovers. With several days at or below freezing and plenty of snow, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing.

Oswego County is known for being in the snow belt. Due to it's location along Lake Ontario, snow tends to form in bands that come across the lake and can produce significant amounts of snow. That never seems to slow us down for long, as our snow removal crews really know how to keep the roads clear.

Total Area

Oswego County covers 953 square miles.

Rivers

The Oswego River is the second largest river which flows into Lake Ontario. The Oswego River is one of only a few rivers in the world that flows south to north.

The Salmon River is popular among sports fisherman. Popular catches are chinook salmon, coho salmon and steelhead.

The Oneida River marks the boundary between Oswego and Onondaga counties. The Oneida river joins with the Seneca River to flow into the Oswego River. The junction is known as Three Rivers and is located at the southern edge of Oswego County.

Lakes

Lake Ontario is the eastern most of the Great Lakes. The lake is boarded by Canada to the north.

Oneida Lake is the largest lake that resides entirely within New York State. Oswego County borders the northern shore of the lake.

Lake Neatahwanta is a spring-fed lake within the City of Fulton and the Town of Granby. A current dredging project is aimed at restoring the health of the lake.
