Overview

Oswego County has a well educated population.

Oswego County is home to a 4-yr college and a 2-yr community college, offering both traditional and non-traditional students access to continuing education.

The Center for Career and Community Education is a partnership between Cayuga Community College and the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation (CiTi). The CCCE offers career training, customized corporate training and more.


Attainment

Nearly 87% of our population aged 25+ has at least a high school diploma. Approximately 50% have at least some college education.

Community Education

CiTi BOCES and Cayuga Community College provide a variety of community education courses including ESL, computer literacy and health and wellness.

Cayuga Community College also offers Ed2Go courses in business, computer applications, medical, legal and more for professional development.

Education and Workforce Partnership Efforts

The Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation (CiTi) offers PTECH for high school students with an interest in STEM. The program, which encompases grades 9-14, allows students to complete their high school diploma plus receive a degree from a two-year community college. The PTECH advisory council includes industry leaders who help shape the curriculum and serve as mentors to the students. This ensures that graduates are ready to enter the local workforce upon graduation. This is just one example of the programs that are available through CiTi.

There are nine separate school districts within Oswego County.

Public

The are nine school districts in Oswego County. In addition to providing a core curriculum, they also offer specialized coursework through partnerships with CiTi BOCES and nearby colleges.

Cayuga Community College provides classes for college credit in the following districts: Central Square, Fulton, Hannibal, Mexico, Oswego, Phoenix and Sandy Creek.

Onondaga Community College provides classes for college credit in the following districts: Altmar-Parish-Wiliamstown, Central Square, Fulton, Hannibal, Mexico and Phoenix.

Jefferson Community College provides classes for college credit in the following districts: Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, Pulaski and Sandy Creek.

SUNY Oswego provides classes for college credit in the following districts: Central Square, Fulton, Hannibal, Mexico and Oswego.

CiTi BOCES works with all nine school districts and offers a variety of full-day and half-day programs that complement the core high school curriculum.

Private

There are 4 private schools in Oswego County.

Oswego Community Christian School is located in the City of Oswego. It offers grades pre-K through 8 with a student to teacher ratio of 18:1.

Providence Christian School is located in the Village of Lacona. It offers grades K through 8 with a student to teacher ratio of 4:1. The school's religious affiliation is Baptist.

Southwest Christian School is located in the Town of Oswego. It offers grades 1 through 12 with a student to teacher ratio of 13:1. The school's religious affiliation is Baptist.

Trinity Catholic School is located in the City of Oswego. It offers grades pre-K through 6 with a student to teacher ratio of 16:1. The school's religious affiliation is Catholic.

Preschool

Oswego County Opportunities offers Head Start/Pre-K programs at 7 locations throughout the county. Head Start is a comprehensive program offered to low income families to ensure their children are well prepared for Kindergarten.

Universal Pre-K is provided through a NYS grant. It is available through all 9 Oswego County school districts. It offers a 5-day per week, half-day program at no cost to the family. Many of the classrooms are located at the Elementary schools.

Colleges and Universities

SUNY College at Oswego offers over 75 majors and over 60 minors. They are most known for their superior Education and Business departments. Year after year, the Princeton Review ranks SUNY Oswego among it's 'Best Regional Colleges.'

SUNY Oswego provides selected courses to Oswego County high schools students for college credit. It provides more challenging coursework for high school students, giving them a head-start on their college careers.

Community Colleges

Cayuga Community College has a satellite campus within Oswego County in the City of Fulton. They offer 30 degree programs and 10 certificate programs. Students can take advantage of classroom, online or hybrid classes. The hybrid classes offer a combination of classroom and online components.

Cayuga Community College provides selected courses to Oswego County high schools students for college credit. It provides more challenging coursework for high school students, giving them a head-start on their college careers.

Cayuga Community College also offers an Advanced Manufacturing Certificate program.

Cayuga Community College created the Center for Career and Community Education (CCCE) in partnership with the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation. CCCE provides adult and continuing education to Oswego County residents.

Vocational & Technical

The Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation provides Career and Technical Education, Alternative Education, and Exceptional Education to  Oswego County students in cooperation with the nine public school districts. CiTi also offers Adult Education in partnership with Cayuga Community College.
