Highway

Two major interstates run through Chautauqua County - Interstate 86 (also called the Southern Tier Expressway) and Interstate 90 (also called The New York State Thruway.)

The New York State Thruway system includes tolls that can be paid with cash or, more conveniently, with E-ZPass, an electronic transponder that is accepted throughout New York State, the surrounding Great Lakes states, and most areas in the New York City metro/tri-state area.

Port Facilities

60 miles away from Chautauqua County, the neighboring Port of Buffalo is the first major U.S. Port of Call encountered when entering the Great Lakes. The Port provides numerous benefits to Buffalo Niagara companies:
  • Encompasses Foreign Trade Zone No. 23, which means incentives for area businesses
  • Piers with 27 feet of water (Seaway standard depth)
  • Two hundred acres located on or near deep water set aside for bulk cargo storage
  • Sheltered by the harbor breakwall, self-unloaders and conventional bulk carriers can safely discharge and load
  • Features 230-ton American crawler crane and a heavy-duty front-end loader
  • Provides in-port rail service via the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad, interchanging with the CSX, NS, CN, and CP
