Transit Programs

Access Allegany is a transit program that allows commuters to travel throughout Allegany, Steuben and Cattaraugus Counties by bus for a small fee. The bus schedule is available at http://www.ardentnetwork.org/access-allegany.html.

A new park and ride facility has been approved with construction to start in summer of 2017 that will include a parking center and electric car charging station in Belmont, NY at the Crossroads Conference & Commerce Center.

Daily Commute

The average daily commute is approximately 21 minutes, with a majority of commuters driving alone.

Highway

Allegany County is served by the following major highways:

  • Interstate 86/NYS Route 17 (exits 28 - 33)
  • NYS Route 19
  • NYS Route 21
  • NYS Route 305
  • NYS Route 417

Rail

Freight rail service is operated by Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad on a mainline east to west route with lines running from Hornell through Alfred, Wellsville, Scio, Belmont, Friendship and Cuba, onto Olean in Cattaraugus County.

Port Facilities

The Port of Buffalo is the first major U.S. Port of Call encountered when entering the Great Lakes and is the nearest port to Allegany County. The Port provides numerous benefits to Buffalo Niagara companies:
  • Encompasses Foreign Trade Zone No. 23, which means incentives for area businesses
  • Piers with 27 feet of water (Seaway standard depth)
  • Two hundred acres located on or near deep water set aside for bulk cargo storage
  • Sheltered by the harbor breakwall, self-unloaders and conventional bulk carriers can safely discharge and load
  • Features 230-ton American crawler crane and a heavy-duty front-end loader
  • Provides in-port rail service via the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad, interchanging with the CSX, NS, CN, and CP


 

Airports

The Wellsville Municipal Airport allows for easy access to Allegany County by corporate or private jet with a 5,000 foot runway.

Commercial service flights are offered at several airports within an hour and a half drive including Rochester, Buffalo, Elmira-Corning, and Bradford.
